@drewwdaniels: Avoidant Partners do need peace in the same way an Anxious partner may want reassurance. It’s not that it’s wrong to want peace (or reassurance)- it just does not necessarily heal the relationship we have to our wounding. When we understand that at the center of the core wound of the avoidant - is a fear that something is fundamentally wrong with them - we can learn to relate and befriend that shame. sometimes when someone is being avoidant and defensive is exactly what you think it is: hurt and shame. however demonizing this will only make it worse. the more we shame an avoidant in their avoidance the more you aggravate their defectiveness wound
