All the Jamaican lads I knew in London back in the 80s loved a drop of Guinness. 😜

The Jamaican word for "jumper" is "ganzy." And the Irish word for jumper is "Geansaí." Both pronounced exactly the same.

The bond between Ireland and Jamaica is built on a shared "rebel soul" and a history of standing up to the same empire. With up to 25% of Jamaicans having Irish ancestry—including Marcus Garvey himself—the connection is literally in the DNA, from shared surnames to a similar rhythmic lilt in the accent. We share a love for storytelling, a history of struggle, and a deep mutual respect that makes us spiritual cousins across the Atlantic. 🇮🇪🇯🇲

Ganzy has been mentioned.....
But there's also the 'habitual be' that's shared by both Hiberno-English and AAE / Caribbean English

The Patois word for jumper/sweater being "Gansay" is most likely not a coincidence either. Its "Geansai" in Irish.

Jamaicans say Irish when referring to potatoes. So many small towns in Jamaica called after Irish towns too. We have a lot in common, bless up 🙌🏻💚

I'm Irish and I had a client call with a guy before. Heard his accent and said "Ah what part of Ireland are you from?" So confident he was Irish. His response "I'm from the Carribean." 😂🤷♀️

I'm a Welsh speaker and I have lived in Jamaica. There are certain words and phrases in Jamaican patois that are the same in Welsh.
