I once got fired because I looked too good at work. The manager told me “I look like I’m here to take her job”. That just motivated me to keep dressing well and ensure my makeup is on point

I literally just forgot to turn on my customer service voice for a coworker who over worked with for 7.5 years. he said, "I hope you dont answer the phone that way to everyone." He knows damn well how I present to clients/partners. It only takes 30 seconds to tank perception. it's exhausting.

I’ve started wearing makeup, straightening my hair and wearing a dress shirt. Got better lighting for my zoom calls and since then have been getting compliments in every meeting. Never happened before.

No one wants to work with people that are not likable. Being the likable person at work helps everyone. Specially if you are also competent! People make their assumptions about you within 7 sec of meeting you so image is huge!
