All very good advice. I would also like to add that dating/marrying an adult is a bad way to escape. I’ve seen too many cases of teens jumping from toxic household to toxic relationships. This is a vulnerable position to be in and you have to be careful which adults you trust 🫶

I wonder why people paint leftists in such a negative way, when most useful life advice comes from older leftists who’ve had a hard life..

Libraries. Do your research at a local public library. Not only will that give you the privacy you might need, public libraries iften have full binders of information on *all sorts* of resources you might be able to use in your situation. And if there is anything you can't find readily available/compiled there, find the gothiest/nerdiest-looking librarian and ask for the info. At the very least, they will point you towards where you *will* find it. It's their superpower.

14 absolutely feels like you're a million miles from 18. But I can also agree with what Madeline is saying - 4 years isn't going to be that long. I'm almost 17 and have been waiting to get out of my mom's since I was 12. Life flew by, you just have to make it through each day.

If you don’t mind me asking, are you still in touch with your dad or are you no / low contact with both parents?

When I was that young, my strategy was to get into as many extra circulars as possible. I never did sports, but signed up for just about everything academic or music related that I could, and that actually benefited me greatly in the long run.

TN is not a good state for emancipation especially at such a young age. a politician might try to marry you.

My sister left our mom's house at 16 and moved in with a friend whose parents loved her. So that might be another option if no relatives can help you.

Well done Madeline. Beautifully navigating the obstacles of difficult circumstances 😭 I wish I’d had an adult speak this to me at 14. Thank you.

I always love your advice, I was wondering if you have any advice on leaving a toxic relationship, especially if you live together?
