@thecontouredlibrarian: And before you ask…”what about the kids that can’t afford to buy anything?” That’s where the book fairy comes in! This is only day one, but so far I think the ticket thing is working well! 💜 #schoollibrarian #bookfair #librariansoftiktok #scholasticbookfair
I could only afford the junk when I was a kid. My parents could only give me $1-2, which wasn’t enough for a book

My rule for my kids is that they have to buy one book with my money. If they have left over money they can buy stuff

My school does a parents night the last day of the book fair and our librarian doesn’t put the “junk” out until then. That way they use money their sent with for books (avoids parent complaints) and then mom or dad can buy the fun stuff with them at parent night

Imma be honest, I'd 100% be that kid to buy in 2 separate orders. one order for books, one for fun stuff, so I can have the fun things but also the book i want. I was that smart as a kid

ignore the haters, this is genius. so many parents will put on fake smiles to see the $20 that went towards books, went towards an unread book and a trinket. A trinket that could been bought at the dollar store for so much less

My son chose a book with rocks on it. He comes to ask me what the rocks are and I told him I don’t know you have to read the book. It is now my favorite trick to get him to read.

Love it! The books that have toys attached to the cover drive me bonkers because you have to destroy the cover to get it to fit on the shelf. 😩

I’ve seen another librarian say she sets it up so there’s only books available during school time, but when it’s opened up so parents can come in she then puts all the trinkets out. The children know this ahead of time and it allows parents to agree to what their children are buying

my favorite book as a kid I got because of a necklace 🤣 I think I've worn that necklace twice and I've read the book at least 5 times 😂 it's really funny how that worked out lol

I wish my kid’s librarian would do this. She always comes home with books she bought for the toys and then complains she doesn’t have anything to read 🤦🏻♀️😂

This is an amazing way to get a child to think about their purchases rather than just “No you can’t buy ___” great way to give agency to the kids but gently guide them to make smarter purchasing choices

I absolutely get the sticker one, but as a little kid who (still has) a special interest in animals and science, ALL the good books I would actually read had a little toy or some stickers in the cover

I bought "A Little Princess" at a book fair. It came with a locket. I have no idea where the locket went, but I've read that book over 20 times, and I still have it on my shelf nearly 30 years later.

I love the thought process in getting kids to look at books that may not have something attached that catches their eye… however. my five year old just went through his book fair and bought a Shark Rules book - that had a cool shark tooth attached to the front cover. This book has been all he carries around - even after taking the tooth out. He goes through it a million times a day - and makes us read it with him at night. Some kids do take interest in the books with the things attached.

I love this, although I was always the kid who bought the books I wanted and then got the toy if I had leftover moneys
