The whole point of the Mac mini is to run models locally and not spend $$ on tokens and API calls. It gets expensive quick. I spent $550 usd in a week before hooking up two Mac minis I had at home with LM Studio. Now I run GPT-80B locally, and a 250k context window, a little slow, but just pay for the power now! Much cheaper.

If you’re new to OpenClaw, I actually recommend starting with a Mac mini instead of a VPS. A VPS sounds easier, but for beginners it comes with risks. Security. Your server is exposed to the internet and if you don’t understand firewalls, SSH, or protecting API keys, you can accidentally expose data. Runaway costs. Agents can make thousands of API calls. If something loops, you can wake up to a huge bill. Complex setup. VPS environments usually require Linux, command line installs, and server management. Debugging is harder. When something breaks on a remote server, beginners often struggle to figure out why. A Mac mini lets you learn the system safely on your own machine before moving to a VPS later.

Orrr you could just dockerize it and pass the the docker socket to the open claw container so it could spawn other agents in other containers. VPS is overpriced
