@fj: Between 2006 and 2019, Liu Bolin created The Invisible Man, a body of work where he paints himself into his surroundings until he nearly disappears. Blending into city walls, supermarket shelves, political backdrops, and cultural spaces, his body becomes part of the environment — visible only if you look closely. The work began as a response to censorship and displacement, but evolved into something broader: a commentary on identity, visibility, and the individual’s place within systems of power and consumer culture. Each image is painstakingly crafted, requiring hours of stillness and precision. What looks like absence is actually presence — a reminder that sometimes the most powerful statement is being hidden in plain sight.
