NDC, stop the mischief and let’s have a little education on Ghana’s two evacuation exercises under the NPP and NDC. Let’s look at the figures and do some simple arithmetic! 1. NDC — South Africa Evacuation * Number of evacuees: 1,964 * Reported total expenditure: GH₵49 million 2. NPP — COVID-19 Evacuation * Number of evacuees: Approximately 10,000 * Reported total expenditure: GH₵94 million Now, do the arithmetic and ask yourself: Which evacuation exercise appears to have delivered better value for money? The COVID-19 evacuation involved bringing Ghanaians home from different parts of the world during a global pandemic. The expenditure included hotel accommodation for quarantine, medication, food, and other essential services. We must also consider the number of days some evacuees spent in hotels before they were cleared for discharge. The South Africa evacuation, on the other hand, reportedly involved 1,964 people from just one country, yet the stated expenditure was GH₵49 million. Let’s break down the reported costs: * South Africa evacuation: Approximately GH₵24,949 per evacuee. * COVID-19 evacuation: Approximately GH₵9,400 per evacuee. That is a significant difference. Based on these reported figures, the South Africa evacuation cost approximately 2.65 times more per person than the COVID-19 evacuation, despite the additional logistical and public health expenses associated with the pandemic exercise. And the concerns do not end with the total expenditure. There are also video accounts from evacuees claiming they never received the GH₵5,500 reportedly allocated to them, while others say they received less than that amount. These claims must be independently verified, and the Ministry must provide a clear account of how the money was disbursed. If funds were allocated to beneficiaries but not received by them, Ghanaians deserve to know what happened to the money. How can we ignore these concerns when public funds are involved? The combination of the reported expenditure and questions surrounding payments to evacuees makes this entire exercise deserving of serious scrutiny. No amount of gaslighting, political propaganda, or attacks on critics can erase these questions or substitute for evidence. Foreign Affairs Minister Okudzeto Ablakwa must provide clear, verifiable answers to the concerns raised. Accountability cannot be demanded from others while questions about one’s own administration are dismissed or avoided. This is why the Minority in Parliament, and the JoyNews research team are demanding answers. Instead of attacking those raising concerns, let the authorities address the specific issues with facts, receipts, payment records, and transparent explanations. If the expenditure was justified, let Okudzeto Ablakwa prove it. If there are discrepancies, explain them. If any money was misappropriated, recover it and hold those responsible accountable. Magraheb TV, do the arithmetic, examine the evidence, and let the public judge. Ghana belongs to all of us, and nobody should be above scrutiny, regardless of political affiliation or position.
