Do median wealth and the average Brit is better off, the disparity between rich and poor is way bigger in the US, and the examples you give re tax are federal only, many states have income tax too.

We used to have comparable incomes, not even that long ago. We’ve had basically stagnant wage growth since 2008 and wrapped ourselves in regulation to strangle any growth, in America they’ve torn it up and good for them.

There is no safety net. You earn and work hard. Your earnings depend on if you qualify for healthcare. Down payments on homes are more affordable, pay into 401k, Roth ira.

The real reason is the absolutely enormous VC environment over there and the tax & regulatory system to support it. You’re talking about side issues instead of the primary wealth driver, shaping how and where money is spent

You’ve cleverly cherry picked here…you forgot to mention state taxes, the cost of health insurance, mortality rates, obesity, education standards, is social security is earnings based, UK is flat rate and therefore fairer. Being rich as you define it isn’t always about how much money you have.

Yep. American who worked in London in tech. My pay was in the 6 figures, but when I went back to the US after 2 years, I instantly got a 50% pay increase!

they earn more but their bills are more the, ave cost of healthcare for the year is about 25k for a family of 4 then you have co-pays on top, car payments seem to be huge and insurance,

Distribution of wealth across country - London / former industrial towns? Incentives for businesses? Ease of building / doing business — planning regulations that deter foreign investment?
