Kungfu/anime. Like these are two different things. In the 80s Asian Americans considered Kungfu their culture. In the 90s asian Americans considered anime Asian culture. It was only later that main stream. Americans started watching it because of Cartoon Network.

Anime for me has been this medium that can unify so many communities. As a Mexican American, anime is so impactful to me as well, look the history of anime in Latin America and how big DBZ and Knights of the Zodiac are there. Most of my black friends, I’ve made because of this mutual love for these stories that made a part of our childhoods

don't forget. video games. Street Fighter 2 have birth to the FGC. JRPGs on the SNES and PlayStation spread similar stories to the home. not to mention the anime video games.

I was born in 1992. My very first anime was Sailor Moon. She was a girls girl. Then i saw Akira, Inuyasha, Cowboy Bepop, and i considered speed racer an anime. Ive been anime heavy for 30 years strong 🥰🥰🥰🥰 i have also done martial arts since 5, all me and my dad (marine/martial arts instructor) watched when i was growing up were action and martial arts movies. He had me in karate, taekwando, jiu jitsu, judo, wing chun, and thai kickboxing. The 90s were a time.

My mom was the one who introduced me to kung fu movies. I think the song ‘kung fu fighting’ by Carl Douglas might have also played a part in its popularity. ✨Wonderful video!✨

I grew up around white people who loved anime and they made me hate it for a long time. I think if I was around more people of color who loved it I would have had a better appreciation for it.

Another content creator I just saw a few minutes ago said it best that Kung fu movies had acts of resistance in them ie Bruce Lee destroying that sign saying no dogs or Chinese, much like whites only signs.

One reasons Kung fu movies survived in Hong Kong was because of black people. Double features would be presented and that financially supported the industry for a good amount of time.
