It’s a little softer than jadeite but still very durable.
It comes from many regions, especially Hetian in China, as well as Russia, Pakistan, Japan, and even areas near rivers in North America.
The highest-quality nephrite from Hetian is known as “mutton fat jade” (羊脂玉), prized for its smooth, creamy texture and high value. So when people ask, “Is this real jade?”
