@philippinestar: Lead defense counsel Nicholas Kaufman said that any criticism from the defense would be addressed solely to the prosecution, not to the “loved ones” of the deceased, during their submissions on the merits of former president Rodrigo Duterte’s crimes against humanity case at the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Thursday. “The defense does not disrespect the soul of any deceased person nor does it make light of the loss of life. Any criticism made by us today will not be leveled at the loved ones of those, such as those tearful relative who I saw in the gallery here on Tuesday,” he said during the third day of confirmation of charges hearing. “The defense’s criticism will be confined only to the prosecution’s document containing the charges, which governs this proceedings, not what has been reported elsewhere in the media. It’s not the defense’s role to give an alternative narrative nor to give an explanation for the facts and figures presented by the prosecution,” he added.
