![Have you ever chased a season? Poiana Narciselor in the Rodnei Mountains exists in a narrow interval between winter’s retreat and summer’s arrival, a fleeting alpine theatre where wild narcissi unfurl across the slopes of the Saca Massif. Perched at roughly 1,600 metres above sea level, among the highest daffodil reserves in Romania, it feels suspended above the ordinary world. The climb from Valea Vinului passes through dark conifer forests before revealing thousands of white blossoms scattered across the mountain like fragments of a fallen cloud. The spectacle is more than scenery. Protected as a botanical reserve, the meadow shelters remarkable colonies of wild narcissus adapted to late frosts, fierce winds, and lingering snowfields. The Rodnei Mountains contain some of the highest peaks in the Eastern Carpathians, and from these heights the horizon stretches across rugged ridgelines and valleys carved by ancient ice. Shepherds crossed these slopes long before hikers arrived, and local lore often treats the flowering as an annual unveiling granted briefly by the mountain. There is something almost monastic about standing here. The narcissi bloom extravagantly for only a few weeks before vanishing beneath snow and silence once more. The meadow poses a curious question: if beauty lasted forever, would we still climb for it? What fleeting place has stayed with you longest? Would you return knowing it would soon disappear?
