I find this easiest to convey with diagrams of the overlapping waves -- you can see when they align and when they cross.

Crazy, I’ve been using beat frequency for almost 30 years when tuning my guitar. I always called them the wiggles. Wiggles go away you’re in tune lol. Thanks for teaching me the proper terminology for said wiggles.
