A lot of them can be pretty nasty to deal with and temperamental. Swedish vallhunds are a much better alternative. Also a herding breed with a similar build, but WAY more friendly

The nipping (and also alerting/barking) was quite easy to train away, but I totally agree that it is not a “beginner friendly” dog. You need to be consistent the first year id say

As someone with both breeds and a mix of the two, they’re not for everyone but it’s honestly not hard to train the nipping tendency away. The way you described “corgis” in this video leans towards Pembrokes. A lot of people don’t get the temperamental differences between Cardigans and pems. Pems generally are more outgoing and beginner friendly but require more effort to be mentally and physically fulfilled. Cardigans are like a mirror of the owner- they can be as lazy as you want to be or hike 8 miles alongside you. They require more socialization and work for you *if* they see the point. You have to figure them out, they are not golden retrievers. Pems will work for you for the fact that it’s you. I hope this helps clarify for some people!

When talking about corgis, it’s very important to make the distinction of the cardigan and pembroke. They are not “variety.” They are each their own breed with clear standards. It’s like making a video and lumping a Labrador and a golden retriever together. Most of the explanation in the video is more closely related to Pems and even the main photo is a Pem.

The first dog I fell in love with as a kid was a corgi, he’s a pembroke. But I have never been able to tell the two types of corgi apart 🥲

I was waiting for a Corgi! I wanted one that might enjoy dog agility and go for long walks. I got one with a couch potato gene who does not enjoy walks and naps all day, but she doesn’t bark which is also nice 😂 now I have a corgi I don’t know how I ever lived without one!

Ma'am...... you meant you Do Not Need! I have one they are not for the faint of heart. you also left out ALL the health issues. Biggest one being their back issues.

you should mention the back problems they have and also tell people to not let their corgis jump around all day since this can cause your corgi to get IVDD which is very dangerous and even if treated will leave them paralyzed and depending on how lucky you are they can either start walking and running again or be forever paralyzed. this happened to our corgi who thankfully survived and recovered from being paralyzed fully.

i love my corgi! 🥰 pembroke welsh. they are super smart and easy to train, but they are very very very sturbon dogs. she knows her commands but she will decide she doesn't wanna listen 😭 other than that, they are amazing pets. don't recommend for small children.

I recently got my second corgi and I was talking with my vet. She told me a lot of corgis turn out to be aggressive because people get them cause they’re cute and then never do anything with them. I was shocked but like also can see exactly what she meant.

My brother's corgi is what some would consider a velcro dog. She tends to jump to get people to pet and cuddle her. Which isn't always great for her back. Especially since she's 10 and had to get surgery on her back leg last year.
