My therapist does a great job of having stuff that is stored well, while also being calm and cozy for adults. I knew where the games were, but they weren’t intrusive. Part of that was an open top shelf with a cabinet with doors below on a side table. The shelf had the chess board, some smaller game things, the fidget basket. Legos, uno, art supplies — all lived in the cabinet. And the water dispenser and coffee pot were on top of the whole thing!

oooooooo this is gonna be so cool! if there's a coffee table (or maybe on that desk) you could have a table runner that's reversible with one of those city street kids play mats
