I'm a carpenter, and I would like to add that you dont need top of the line tools either. I use a dewalt because I need them for 50+ hours a week. Get something simple, Hart brand is actually pretty good. Its more important that you maintain a good tool then let the best tools fall apart.

Miter saw, circular saw (+kreg accucut for straight cuts), insulation foam (instead of workbench), drill with variable speed, pocket hole jig, random orbital sander

This is a legit list; obviously you’ll need stuff like squares, tape measures, clamps, etc as well but these four power tools with a pocket hole jig will let you build so many things.

I’ve been using an old piece of plywood on top of two sawhorses as a mobile work table. (My garage is a living space). I am just a beginner and right now about working on putting together a large tabletop to set on my washer and dryer. When I laid the boards down I realized my tabletop is not flat so that’s going to make life a lot harder. Do you have any clever ideas for a makeshift tabletop that sits completely flat?

And as a beginner I went through pawnshops that are known for selling used tools because I worked in one so I know how the process goes but if you want to make that investment and buy brand new nothing wrong with that either🥰

Also get two electric drills, so you can have one for drilling and one for screwing, saves a shit load of time. A tool I always thought is not worth it, but I use now more than I ever thought is possible is a power file :)
