@epicgardening: ICE CREAM BEAN TREE - one of the plants that quietly does a lot of heavy lifting, and is often planted as a living support tree, meaning farmers use it as a backbone for other crops instead of relying on synthetic inputs. Drop the leaves, let them decompose, and you’ve got instant mulch and organic matter feeding the soil. It’s also a favorite in permaculture systems because it grows fast, responds well to pruning, and bounces back hard. You can chop it multiple times a year and it just keeps pushing new growth, which makes it perfect for biomass production and weed suppression. Wildlife loves it too. The flowers attract pollinators, the canopy becomes habitat, and fallen pods rarely go to waste. In some regions, the seeds are even roasted or used medicinally, while the bark and leaves have traditional uses in teas and remedies. Bottom line, this is one of those trees that proves productivity isn’t just about harvests. Sometimes it’s about how much a single plant can give back to everything growing around it.

Feel free to ask questions! Ice cream bean has many species, and the flavor can vary depending on which one you try. I’ve tried Inga edulis and I’m currently growing it. My coworkers had mixed reviews on the taste, but I really enjoyed it. It’s been a while, so I can’t give an exact flavor profile, but one thing to note is the texture. It’s made up of soft, fine fibers. I kind of run my teeth through it to get the juice. Definitely not for everyone, especially if you’re sensitive to textures.
