The vibe for me is poignant, even melancholic. Out the window the seasons are roaring by. The tree we planted is growing tall and proud. Seasons give way to years and then decades. Suddenly, you are gone and the snow weighs heavily on the limbs of our tree. Time moves slower now. When the snow melts, I break down the fallen branches. I burn them in the furnace to stave off the lingering cold. The tree doesn’t mind. There are tiny new shoots and leaves emerging from around its missing branches. I resolve myself to do the same.
