A generation is when a brand new group of starters are released. Anything that had its initial release between two games like that is considered the same generation.

Naw this is wrong. The generations simply are to recognize NEW pokemon in the true set of main games. Heart gold and soul silver are just remakes of gen 2. Generation does not spawn a period of real life time, it spans Pokemon LORE time.

Yeah that’s not how I see generations at all. I only do mainline fans as generations and I consider remakes, remakes of its respective generations so fire red and Lear green is a gen 1 remake

I mean… the word ‘Generation’ literally implies it a specific period of time (ex. Gen Z, Gen Alpha). If you want to call Heart Gold & Soul Silver a Gen 2 game, just call it a Johto game. The regions are given names of a reason, use em’.

I thought this was very well known knowledge 😅 let's go being gen 7 I knew but would understand why people would misplace it as it's the 1st ever game to release on an entirely different console to the other games in it's generation

I've always considered a generation to be new region/starters so legends Arceus would be in the same generation as diamond and pearl since they are both in sinnoh and remakes would be in the same generation as the original games

I do not give credit to gen 3 or 4 or 6 for having remakes, 90 percent of the work was done for them already from previous generations and they just added quality of life stuff and made it prettier. If you wanna give gen 8 credit for BDSP be my guest no one likes that game anyway
