@drtoddstrong: Your left foot burns and tingles but your right foot is completely fine. This isn't diabetes—you have a structural problem compressing nerves on one side. Here's what's causing it.Diabetic neuropathy is always symmetrical—both feet equally affected. When only one foot has symptoms, you have nerve compression from a herniated disc, hip problem, or vascular blockage on that side. Here are the 5 causes of one-sided neuropathy:Number 1 – You have a herniated disc on that side of your spine. The bulging disc is pinching the nerve root that goes to that specific foot. This is mechanical compression, not metabolic damage.Number 2 – Your piriformis muscle is compressing your sciatic nerve. This muscle in your hip can trap the sciatic nerve on one side, causing burning and tingling down that leg into your foot.Number 3 – You have a blood clot or arterial blockage on that side. Peripheral artery disease can affect one leg more than the other. Your foot isn't getting enough blood flow, causing nerve pain.Number 4 – You had surgery or injury on that side. Hip replacement, knee surgery, or ankle injury can damage nerves during the procedure or create scar tissue that compresses nerves later.Number 5 – You have a pelvic tumor or mass compressing nerves. This is rare but serious. A growth pressing on nerves in your pelvis can cause one-sided foot neuropathy. When you identify and address the structural cause—decompress the nerve, release the muscle, or improve blood flow—one-sided neuropathy can improve dramatically within 6-12 weeks.Get an MRI of your lumbar spine and pelvis to check for disc problems or masses. See a physical therapist for piriformis release. Get vascular testing to check blood flow. Don't assume it's diabetes.Do you have neuropathy in only one foot? Vascular blockage? I have pain, numbness and cold left leg and foot. At times I will feel pain go from my left buttocks (pinch feeling) than goes down my leg. But I also have an issue with a vein in my leg. I cannot remember if it was the left or right leg. But it’s the vein that supposedly what my vascular doctor said was not a vein that people need and when people get in car accidents or need it in different areas of their body, they take it from the leg and then put it into whatever area needs it. He claims it’s not an important in my opinion everything in your body is important. But I also have an issue with my vena cava.

How come I didn’t have diabetes but my feet tangled and throbbed and really hurt when I stood on them? 16 years now and still nobody knows why. I do have EDS. And also a lot of disc and stenosis and arthritis in my back.

Important reminder that nerve symptoms can have different causes. Looking at structural, vascular, and metabolic factors helps create a more complete picture when addressing neuropathy.

DLPRN …. It can be on sided but affects both. Definitely caused by diabetes but it’s rare.
