@chrisreadsbooks: Have you read this piece of absurdist fiction? Most novels ask you to care about the protagonist. Yet, how do you care about a character who has completely stopped caring about themselves? In Life For Sale, Yukio Mishima gives us Hanio, a man who survives an attempt on his own life and responds by doing the most nihilistic, darkly logical thing imaginable: listing his life for sale in the newspaper. What follows is absurdist, satirical, and deeply strange in the best possible way. But underneath the dark comedy is a genuinely unsettling question Mishima refuses to answer for you: what makes a life worth living if you’re willing to sell it? #BookTok #literature #fictionbooks #learnontiktok #TikTokLearningCampaign
I loved this book! It’s so fast and loaded with ridiculous situations that actually are saying something meaningful. I think Mishima talked about it like it was just a throw-away pulp novel, but it’s way better than that.

Absolutely! From reading the Sailor Who Fell From Grace with the Sea, his novel seemed to be semi-autobiographical. Definitely interested in reading more of his stuff
