@wildforlife: Time for my annual re-sharing of this very important message! Across much of North America right now, nature is awakening from its winter slumber (sure, here in New York we're still under feet of snow, but I promise spring isn't that far away!) and that means phones are about to start ringing off the hook at wildlife rescues all across the land, with calls about orphaned and injured baby animals. 🐰🐿️🐣 Many of these animals are not actually orphaned, and calling your local wildlife rehabilitators can help prevent a mother's heartbreak and her children being kidnapped. But some of these animals really do need our help, and it's our collective responsibility to make sure we are providing the right help and not causing more harm. Please do not offer food or water to a struggling baby animal without first consulting a wildlife rehabilitator! Although well-intentioned, the results can be deadly. Now is the time to prepare your wildlife emergency checklist, so you're ready before you need it! Keeping a small animal carrier or cardboard box, blanket or towel, hand warmers, and both exam gloves and protective bite resistant gloves in your car, can make sure that you were prepared to safely assist in a wildlife emergency 🚨 The most important thing to have at the ready is a list of contacts for local wildlife rehabilitators and veterinarians who assist with wildlife! @animalhelpnowapp Animal Help Now is a free app that you can download on your phone today in case a wildlife emergency arises, to quickly find a wildlife rehabilitator located near you. Have these contacts handy before you need them! Being prepared can save a wild life! 💚 #wildliferehabilitation #wildliferescue #rescuerehabrelease #wildforlifeinc #wildliferehab

I found a stunned bird that was breathing weird and looked terrified and put it in a box with some seeds. Then I started googling and ran to remove the seeds. I left her in the box with a towel over it for an hour (I checked on her once in the middle and she had her eyes closed), and when I came back, she had done a HUGE poop, and she woke up and flew away!!

We feed the adult birds on our balcony, inlcuding 5 generations of the Crownelius familly and the hardest thing is to not interfere with the nestlings when they have been kicked out of the nest. It breaks our hearts but we know that we're not supposed to so we let net nature take its course. Once they are big enough the parents will bring them up to our balcony for water and a healthy snack and sometimes even leave them under my watch while they go attend to crow business. But we never touch them, nor do we touch the adults we just make sure there are healthy snacks and lots of clean, fresh water for them and for the little song birds.
