@builtbyaud: Standard residential tread depth should be at least 10” (according to google). These stairs were 9.25”. Once you took the overhang of the nose on each tread into account it became a recipe for disaster and we have slipped down multiple times. Due to the small landing at the bottom, I could only take the new stairs out so far, but I was still able to get each step to 10”. I had contractors come out for an estimate assuming the stringers themselves would need to be replaced, but when they said they would build it out just like this I thought, “well I can do that.” So here we are.
