I was asked to be a bridesmaid when I was in college working 2 jobs to get by… I told her I’d be there to support but wouldn’t be able to be afford to be in it… her (now) husband paid for my dress and shoes as a gift to her cuz she wanted me in it.

I think both were wrong. The bride def should not have picked such an expensive dress! I couldn’t fathom asking for such an expensive dress.The bridesmaid should have declined if she can only do $20. You need to be prepared to pay at least $60-$100 minimum.

Have you watched, 'Don't tell the bride'. It's an unhinged British show where the fiance plans the wedding in a week and no one tells the fiancee until the day. He even picks the wedding dress!

Off topic but the first bridesmaid dress option you showed as an example of “not looking good” was actually really coherent. They had similar fabrics, tone of color and hem length. Personally it was very nice but also a great example of differing colors and necklines but similar dresses in all other regards
