Jaiden :
New dissociative barriers can form at any point in life given sufficient stress for the individual, hence causing a “split” and (a) new part(s) appearing. It is a coping mechanism. Once the brain learns it can create dissociative barriers to compartmentalise trauma/experiences, it will use it if there is no better coping mechanism available. Yes parts can change as needed, but that doesn’t new parts can’t form

sorry just wanted to clarify (I'm a studying psych, and have interest in DID and CPTSD), from my current knowledge I believe that a system can still 'split' alters or parts if they experience trauma after the age of 9. are you moreso saying that these 'newer' parts are splitting from existing parts? or do they just 'feel' new but have been there the entire time?

We split “new” alters somewhat frequently as we are polyfragmented, many reintegrate soon after splitting because of a variety of reasons but mainly that their purpose is fulfilled. I wanted to ask, do you mean this as you can’t technically create new parts, but further fracture existing parts (ie parts of a broken mirror getting smaller when broken further)?

I get what you're saying and I like it just fine. I can also say that the inital finding out about parts and/or an evolution of those parts can feel "new" due to dissociation.

Now ive reached functional multiplicity- Noticing this recently from a few personalities that have morphed into other aspect with the same coping mechanisms just in a different font.

From God’s lips to your ears? Our experience does not comport with this assertion. It may be true in some cases, but not all.

Do you have a source for this? As far as I’m aware, ToSD supports the concept of new alternative identity states forming due to additional trauma, especially when no existing alters are able to integrate the traumatic experience

a lot of inherent questions with this one. When a new extreme life situation happens that needs an adaptation that don't align with previous experiences. Do you mean that one part simply changes to fulfill the new role, doesn't it seem plausible that an entirely new aspect of living life has to develop?

that...was one wild sentence construction that doesn't align with English grammar in any way. It could mean so many things. Was that on purpose, or did you go off script?
