@freerangepigeon: Replying to @hb235356638294 the banana is on the wall for the same reason I once let a student convince me that a gray piece of paper was a family portrait #art #teacher #banana #comedian
my favourite modern art piece is "Because I Love You"

I will concede the banana is art. But I will contest that it is a sculpture.

I hate the banana. It bothers me that a literal banana and some duct tape can sell for so much. But I get it. It took him so long to make them that its value was boosted. I get it. And I hate it.

The banana says a lot about how much capitalism perverts art

It upsets me that they didn’t leave the slash in the painting. I feel like it became a bigger conceptual piece at that point.

I got into a heated argument with my philosophy teacher in high school about what art is. He asked if a destroyed desk was art and I said it depended on intent. If it was destroyed just to be destroyed then no, but if the intent was to tell a story and evoke certain feelings then yes. Art is about intent which is also why AI can't create art because there's no intent from the AI and they can't properly evoke the intent the human behind the prompt wanted to express no matter how hard they try

To me banana on the wall is just a prime example of money laundering 😅

This is my version of the banana that I made for my place. My kid thinks it’s hilarious and asks why I have a banana on my wall all the time

"what makes a .30$ banana worth 120,000 dollars?". Obscene wealth disparity.

The art wasn’t the banana taped. It was the detailed instruction

What’s funny about Comedian is that people criticized the fact that owning it just meant owning a certificate stating you own it… and then NFTs became popular a couple years later.

That banana is actually the exact reason why I stapled a bag of Doritos to a canvas I painted using kitchen utensils

I will strongly claim every time, that banana taped on the wall is the reason why AI art was allowed to flourish.

the banana one was literally a joke, an experiment about how critics would think anything is art if you put it in a museum

"What is art" is perhaps the third most unanswerable question humanity has ever posed. Even today we question art. Must it elicit emotion? Must it be made with intent? Must the audience understand? Even must it be made by human beings?
Incidentally this is part of why I so vocally despise generative AI images being presented as art. You can't reduce art to a function in a script.
