Bobby Fischer had a very complicated relationship with chess. Even though he was a genius and became World Champion, after some time he said that he “hated chess” for several reasons: He said he disliked how, at the highest level, players memorized too many openings. He wanted more creativity and believed chess had become too dependent on theory. The pressure was enormous. After winning the 1972 World Championship against Boris Spassky, he became extremely famous and stressed. Fischer was also a perfectionist and became very frustrated when he made mistakes or felt that the chess system was unfair. Later in life, he also had personal and mental health problems, which affected the way he saw the world and chess. However, even though he said he hated chess, he remained obsessed with it and even invented the Chess960 variant to make the game more creative.

I’m not saying we are similar at all but I feel like, I used to play more than 4 hours a day and man, all I could think about is chess, when I would go to Bed i could only think about chess moves and nothing else
