@buildingstories_sg: Located at 141 Middle Road lies the GSM Building also known as the Shan Yuan Building Shan Yuan, which roughly translates to "The Mountain Source", symbolises rock-solid business and prosperity, echoing its brutalist design of geometric shapes and raw concrete material. Comprising 33 units of various establishments, the building was acquired en bloc for $80 million and will be transformed into a co-living space which is set to open this month. Know any other buildings built in the brutalist style? Let us know in the comments, and follow us for more content! #singapore #History #gsmbuilding #shanyuan #brutalist
I do not like Brutalist-style buildings becaise they look boring on the outside, often composed of rectangular shapes and covered in concrete. Because they do not let in natural light, the interiors of such buildings often feel closed-off and dark. I much prefer structural expressionism with their heavy use of steel and glass that let in plenty of natural light into the buildings.
