@nurjahankhatun321: How has my faith influenced how I handle high-pressure spaces? Everything. I’m a Muslim woman. That isn’t something I switch off when I walk into boardrooms. I don’t dilute it. I don’t hide it. I wear my deen openly. And yes, I occupy spaces where my presence still unsettles people. I still get mistaken for the note-taker.
I still see the flicker of surprise when I introduce myself as the Director. Earlier in my career, the corporate world tried to teach me that my faith was a limitation. That it was something to downplay. That it would make my rise harder. For a while, I believed that. Because I had never seen anyone like me in the rooms I was sitting in. Not in tech. Not in project delivery. Not in 16 years of UK Government. There was no blueprint. No one I could look at and think, I can aspire to her. So my anchor became Allah. When the rooms felt isolating.
When the pressure felt political.
When the weight of representation felt heavy. My faith was the only constant. I’m reflecting on how every room I entered, every bias I navigated, every breakthrough I earned, was carried on tawakkul (complete trust and reliance on Allah while taking action). If you are a Muslim woman navigating spaces where you are the only one like you, drop a 🔥 below. Let’s find each other. Link to full podcast interview: https://bit.ly/4c9pTcB
