His first wife was bi-racial tho at the time (50s) they said she was Italian and she lived her life by passing and the 3Ks targeted him back then and when his daughter, also a musician, Roseanne Cash was on Finding Your Roots, obviously her mixed race ancestry was brought out. Not related to Johnny Cash and his claim of Cherokee ancestry which many Americans (black & white) claim, true or not.

when i was young decades ago before dna testing was available it wasnt uncommon for people to claim heritages they didnt have, someone in the family would claim a great great great great grandmother was native, there was noway to check if it was true so no one took it seriously but still thought it was true-ish. i was told i had irish and native ancestors, i tried looking but no records were readily available past my great grand-parents
