Unfortunately, this is dramatically better than it used to be! When I trained as a Pediatrician we only had 24 hour in house call shifts and did this every 4-5th night. And those 24 hr shifts usually ended up being 27-28 hours.

Even when we do get to rest on the night shift, the sleep is not good. I’m constantly waiting for my pager to go off or phone to ring so it’s almost easier just to stay up 😅
