@googleartsculture: Discover 5 things you need to know about the Korean French painter Lee Ungno, known as one of the most important Asian painters of the 20th century: 🔵 Eastern and Western influences: Starting as a master calligrapher, he went on to blend his classical training with modern Western art to create a unique style of his own. 🔵 Experimentation: From traditional Hanji paper to old wood—the world was his palette. He even drew a picture using the heels of shoes and created sculptures using old closets. 🔵 Art at Any Age: He proved creativity has no expiration date. His most iconic works, including the 'Abstract Letter' and 'People' series, were created in his 50s, 70s, and even 80s. 🔵 Unstoppable Passion: Art was his oxygen. Even when imprisoned for two years due to a political scandal, he didn't stop, using soy sauce and rice paste to paint on toilet paper. 🔵 Bamboo: Bamboo remained a symbol he used throughout his career: from his first steps as a painter to his development of his explorations of Western abstract art in Paris.
