You don’t add the rod until the pipe is hot enough. You’ll know the pipe is hot enough when you touch the rod to it, and the rod will melt and flow into the heated area

Just a tip brother I see you grinding, dont add the rod until the pipe is heated up, when u add the rod once the pipe is hot the it'll just melt and heat will make the solder run through the joint, it'll be way easier, also sand paper your joints I think it makes the solder catch better too, in my opinion

When you’re brazing heat up your pipe and just swipe your silfos across it, once it starts to melt and flow you just need to keep the pipe around that same temp. The whole pipe needs to be hot for good capillary action, when your meting the silfos with the torch it just globs up on the pipe and creates a weak braze joint. Still not bad for your first time though keep it up!

I’ll keep it simple like my boss did w me heat the pipe up don’t heat your solder you wanna melt the solder onto the pipe when it’s hot enough you’ll start to see the true copper color that’s when your solder will melt

Don’t heat up the rod u gotta heat the coupling and go around it so it pulls it in and seals it

Hey man! Just a tip I’d like to give you, don’t be afraid of getting that pipe cherry red all around your brazing area and while you are heating up the material preheat the brazing rod with the end of your torches flame. You’ll find the brazing rod melting and flowing easily! I’m also a student and like to help others in my field, take care bro 😎

How my boss taught me was heat up the pipe and wait for it to change colors and you’ll notice it and slightly let the rod go around the pipe doesn’t take to much and I’ve always used that strategy

Waaaaayyyyy hotter brother, you need that capillary action. The feather of your flame is a bit too tight as well.

a tip that will save any HVAC tech starting out there : when brazing copper tubing make sure both ends of the copper you're brazing is hot enough first! then you take your copper tech and trust me it will melt easily around the copper piping nicely!

make sure you get the pipes hot first, then focus the heat on the bell of the pipe when you start adding solder so that it gets sucked into the joint.

Carson Williams :
Heat the pipe more so it melts when it hits the pipe then move it down to fitting so the heat moves into joint it’s called capillary action

Only been in the trade for about two years. My pops brought me in after doing it for 20. A lead taught me the slower u go the faster it’ll get done. Bring the heat around some spots on the coupling, then hold it at the top. The rod will do the job itself, keep killing it Bro, we’re all learning everyday, no matter how old we are.

gotta get the pipe hot first bud, solder will melt itself, cherry red and you’re good to go

Tanner Arrington :
Put the flame on the middle of the fitting and hold it till it gets hot you can check with the solder if it’s hot enough then when the solder starts to melt in the fitting you only need about a little bit of solder. Always rag it down after your done for a clean finish.

Don’t be scared of melting the pipe. Will go red red hot before then. Just don’t hold gun to close

Need to get the copper cherry red before adding solder. Once its cherry red, pull your torch away from the pipe and add solder, move the torch closer when you feel you need to warm the pipe more again. You’ll get used to the feels the more you practice.
