The Moon is Earth's only natural satellite, and its origin is one of the most fascinating topics in astronomy. According to the most widely accepted theory, approximately 4.5 billion years ago, the young Earth collided with a large celestial body roughly the size of Mars, which scientists tentatively call Theia. The impact was so powerful that it ejected a huge amount of hot crustal debris and material from the colliding object into space. This debris formed a gigantic disk of dust, rocks, and molten rock around Earth. Under the influence of gravity, the particles gradually collided and adhered to each other, forming ever larger bodies. In a relatively short time, by cosmic standards, the Moon formed from this material. For the first millions of years of its existence, it was a red-hot ball of molten rock that gradually cooled, forming the crust, mantle, and other internal layers. Traces of this turbulent period are still preserved on the Moon's surface in the form of ancient rocks and numerous craters. Today, the Moon is at an average distance of about 384,000 kilometers from Earth, influences the tides, stabilizes the tilt of the Earth's axis, and remains an important object of scientific research, helping scientists better understand the early history of our planet and the formation of the solar system. #moon #physics #astrophysics #Science
