Ardanaiseig is a distinguished 19th century Scottish Baronial house, designed in 1834 by the noted architect William Burn for Colonel James Campbell. Set on the banks of Loch Awe, the house forms the architectural centrepiece of an extensive estate, its composition defined by a grand hall, principal staircase and a series of formal reception rooms with high ceilings, ornate plasterwork and open fireplaces. The interiors retain a strong sense of period character, while later restoration has been undertaken with care, preserving the building’s historic fabric alongside its continued use and adaptation. The estate extends to approximately 173 acres and is notable for the breadth and variety of its designed and natural landscape. Formal elements such as the walled garden and sweeping lawns give way to meadow and established woodland, all oriented towards the loch frontage. The setting is further distinguished by the presence of a lochside amphitheatre and a collection of ancillary structures, including a cottage and a contemporary boathouse whose restrained modern form provides a deliberate contrast to the historic house. Integral to the character of Ardanaiseig is its relationship with the water. The estate includes a private island, Eilean A’Chomhraidh, together with several ancient crannogs that speak to much earlier habitation of the loch. This combination of architectural authorship, layered history and a cohesive landscape setting results in a property of unusual depth, where built form and environment are closely aligned. #countryhouse #architecture #interior #dream #Home
