when I had to float onto a psych unit as a registered nurse, patients had to "earn " time outside in the fresh air and sunlight!!! Their behavior determined whether they got fresh air and sunlight!!!!Read that again you had to earn fresh air and sunlight but you could have every pharmaceutical imaginable order to you

They do not stabilize you, they need to help you process why you are in the facility to begin with

The one time I went inpatient I lied to every single nurse and doctor to leave early because it was so traumatic. I felt like I was being punished for my Girl Interrupted moment. I didn’t want to die, I just…didn’t want to deal with being sad anymore.

I’m trying to transfer my daughter to a professional residential facility but they refuse to transfer her. Any advice?

Living conditions are like prison! Staff treats you horribly and you leave more traumatized!!

It’s a bandaid. 😭 Even in residential facilities. Therapy is needed, actual trauma therapists that can help them process their past and be able to work towards healthy coping skills. 💚

They don’t save everyone. For some people it’s a waste of time. People lie to get out.

As someone who has worked as a therapist at inpatient & residential places with both adolescents & adults since 2018, YES. The whole system needs revision & improvement.

There’s a lot of factors that make it difficult for continuity of care (lack of shelter, family problems or lack of support, bed unavailability in residential, insurance coverage, long wait for county mental health appointments , individuals own choice not to follow through with after care , etc etc etc )

What about residential treatment centers? Genuinely curious I was in two different inpatient facilities last year the first one was just 3 days and the second one was 5 days. Please help
