Unfortunately, this culture war is causing the pursuit of marriage, a sacred union between souls, to be reduced into something soulless and transactional. I fully understand that misogyny and the flaws of patriarchy caused this reactionary extreme, but for the sake of fulfillment, we shouldn’t pursue revenge against the system via our personal marriages. Restorative justice is creating healthy, healed love between man and woman, not vengeance. Marriage was meant to be a place of tranquility, affection, and mercy, just as Allah describes it in Qur’an 30:21.
