The key angle here is capacity and priority, not assuming every “Can you start immediately?” is a trap. The mistake is committing before checking whether the request is actually workable, I hope you all understand my point 🫶 Client asked: “Can you start immediately?” It sounds like a simple question. But there is something you need to understand before you answer. The client is not only asking about your availability. They are also checking how you handle pressure. When a client needs something urgently, their brain wants certainty. They want to know, “Can this person handle this without making my problem worse?” If you quickly say: “Yes, I can start immediately.” You may have just created a promise you cannot comfortably keep. What if another project is already running? What if the client delays sending important information? What if they suddenly add more work because they think you are completely available? Now you are under pressure because of a commitment you made too quickly. Here’s a better approach. Don’t reject the urgency. Don’t blindly accept it either. First, understand exactly what “immediately” means. A business owner once received an urgent request from a client who wanted the work started that same morning. He immediately said yes. Later, he discovered the client expected the entire project completed before the end of the day. He had accepted the job before understanding the deadline. The next time a client asked for an immediate start, he changed his response. Instead of saying yes, he asked: “I can check my schedule and confirm the earliest time I can begin. What deadline are you working with?” That small change gave him control. Now he could understand the urgency, check his workload, and give the client a realistic commitment. The lesson is simple: Never commit to a timeline you haven’t properly understood. Instead of: “Sure, I can start immediately.” Say: “I can check my availability and confirm the earliest start time. When do you need this completed?” You are still being helpful. But you are not allowing the client’s urgency to make the decision for you. Good communication is not about saying yes quickly. It is about giving the right answer confidently. This is exactly the kind of client psychology I break down inside The Client Code ebook, including how to communicate better, handle objections, build trust, understand what clients really mean, and stop losing opportunities because of poor communication. If you want to get better at handling clients, check the link in my bio. #ClientCommunication #BusinessTips #ClientPsychology #Entrepreneurship #TheClientCode
