This is not only the story of a warrior. This is the story of a son speaking to his mother after giving everything he had. Abbas (as) is not saying, “Look what they did to me.” He is saying, “Mother, don’t worry… I stayed loyal.” And that is what hurts the most. His hands were severed, but his promise was not. His body was broken, but his heart never moved away from Hussain. He reached the water, but he could not drink while the children were thirsty. Imagine that kind of love. Imagine standing at the river with your own thirst burning through your chest… but remembering the cries of the children behind you. Imagine being wounded, surrounded, alone… and still thinking only of the one you came to protect. That is Abbas. The kind of loyalty we all wish we had. The kind of courage we all hope we could carry. The kind of love that makes your own pain feel small when someone you love is suffering. And then he turns to his mother in the poem, as if to say: “You raised me well. You did not lose your son for nothing. You gave me to Hussain… and I fulfilled it.” How can a mother hear that and not break? How can a heart hear that and stay the same? Umm al-Banin gave four sons to Hussain (as). And not one of them came back. But history did not remember them as lost. History remembered them as loyalty. As sacrifice. As love that did not ask for comfort. As hearts that chose Hussain until their final breath. Peace be upon Abbas ibn Ali (as), the hands that fell but never betrayed, the soul that reached the river but chose the thirsty children, and the son who made his mother’s sacrifice eternal. 🥀 #islam #History #poetry
