THE TEXTER :
When we first met, I was confused,
Choking on my own progress like a bomb with a broken fuse.
I was convinced to fulfill a duty that I didn't need,
Not knowing it would bring about something beautiful indeed.
I met a lady, not a girl—
She wasn't fair, she was dark chocolate and wore all-back hair.
She didn't smile and didn't talk too much,
I asked a question, she replied with little, cold to the touch.
But I was myself, 'cause I lack that kind of shame,
And we began talking—it was perfect, like a well-fit frame.
She was free, wild—a kindred spirit,
A brave heart that sealed my wound without meaning to fill it.
She carried fire for God too,
Something I didn’t expect, but I smiled about like a fool.
She walked with me, and I with her, night and day,
And in my mind, I said, come what may,
I would not lose her to predator or prey.
But my own mistakes and bumbling attitude
Cost me something I finally held with gratitude.
'Cause when the world sees good in the hands of someone deemed fractured,
Fate would take action to break what is yet matured.
And so I lost what I finally grew fond—
Something I deeply regret.
I do miss that bond.
