@cazzatime: The WORST things you can spend your money on… Let me know if you agree (or disagree), and if I’ve missed anything out. #PersonalFinance #moneytips #Lifestyle
I agree with all of those, but I do get the appeal of lottery tickets. I get one or two a month if I’m in a shop and see it’s a massive prize. It’s not an investment, you’re buying a dream, you’re paying £2.50 to then sit in the car for 20 minutes on the way home thinking about what you might do if you win. A bit of mental escapism. On that basis, it’s £2.50 well spent.

The car thing. 1) We had second hand cars for ages that would suddenly, out of nowhere, have an expensive fault. Whenever we had a bit of savings it would go on the car. 2) safety and practicality. New cars have more safety features, for people who drive a lot, I value that. 3) Reliable, no fear of it suddenly breaking down or developing a bunch of faults at once. 4) electric vs petrol. We have a petrol car and just moved to electric.. the difference. No having to go to petrol stations, it saves so much time just charging it at home. Plus, with petrol prices rising and people panic buying, no worry with any of that.

200 quid for a car that is under warranty so you have complete peace of mind motoring is nothing, used cars can cost thousands if something goes wrong

All fair points , but most of them are wrong depending on personal circumstances or requirements

Agree with most of them. Luxury clothing can go both ways. Logos is unnecessary. But 100% cotton, cashmere, linen or wool instead of polyester is definitely worth it - for both beauty and comfort.

I always thought the same about buying a brand new car. Then realised that dealership will give you money towards it. Literally ordered a car last week and they gave me £11k towards it.

Whilst it doesn't make sense with current interest rates, in the past if you got a £20,000 car with a 2% APR loan over 5 years and then invested £20,000 into even a conservative ETF offering 5% return, you would be better off than buying a car outright.
