@support.newmom: Most breastfeeding families don’t know this… If you’re room-sharing and want to reduce night waking, try moving the bassinet to Dad’s side of the bed. Why it helps (when it’s not time for a feed): 🧠 Neuroscience: After birth, maternal oxytocin rises and the brain’s alert systems become extra sensitive to baby cues. Wonderful for bonding… but it can also make Mum more likely to feed at the first stir, even if baby isn’t hungry yet. 👃 Biology: Breastfeeding mothers smell like milk, which can cue wakefulness and feeding behaviour. 💪 Dad advantage: Dads don’t have the same oxytocin surge or milk scent, so they’re often better placed to resettle a baby who wakes before the next feed is due. How to try it: Shift the cot/bassinet to Dad’s side. If baby wakes early, Dad offers resettling (pat/shush, cuddle, gentle rock). If baby is hungry, they’ll let you know, then feed as usual. Why this matters: More consolidated overnight sleep supports maternal recovery and can help protect milk supply for the next feed. Send this to a dad supporting a breastfeeding mother. Climbing over my snoring husband to feed the baby anyway sounds harder than just feeding the baby 🤣

My hubby woke up in the morning telling me the baby slept through the night.. Oh are you sure, honey? Coz I’ve been waking up every 2-3hr to feed her 😴

its funny to hear men talking about this. Baby needs to be close to mom and nurse as often as they want. I will die on this hill. I have 3 grown super smart and healthy kids who nursed on demand

We did this starting about day 5 after coming home from the hospital - my husband was the driver for it, and never complained about getting up overnight. He would change him and soothe him outside feeds, and loved every minute of his extra bonding time. Did I wake up when the baby cried? Yes. Did I immediately go back to sleep knowing my husband had that shit handled? Also yes. He went back to work after 4 weeks and STILL did this while I was on Mat leave. He’s a real keeper

We tried this, she still cry and need attention except now I’d have to get up and walk AROUND the bed to her bassinet bc he’d sleep through her cries every time… 🫠

Why would we do that? Night feeding is essential as our prolactin levels are higher in the early hours of the morning and ensures our milk supply 🤔

There is no Dad side. He is snoring like dear God, so he sleeps in the livingroom. Now what.

This doesn’t take into account the neuroscience that shows how proximity to mother helps regulate their hunger and satiety signals. There is a very good reason why they can “smell” the milk. It’s for their development. Hello from an actual neuroscientist 👋

What’s wrong with comfort feeding? The fastest way to settle baby without even getting up.

So where was this advice 9 years ago🙄. Why are us mothers left to fend for ourselves with little to no knowledge.
