On aircraft like the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the composite wing is built to flex — sometimes by several metres in flight. Flex spreads loads, absorbs energy, and prevents stress from concentrating in one rigid point. Before certification, wings are pushed to 150% of their maximum expected load.
