@adhdwithjennafree: We hear a lot about dopamine and not enough about dysregulation. You might be amazed how much you require less punchy, quick hitting dopamine when you are no longer in survival mode. Slower burning and “healthier” dopamine can fuel you and feel really darn good when we’re in a more regulated state. Why does this matter? Because hard hitting dopamine usually feels good in the short term but hurts us in the long term. - endless scrolling - food - spending $ - even toxic relationships Healthier dopamine can come from: - accomplishment and achievement - growth and doing hard things - a meaningful interaction with a friend - exercise and fully engaging in things you enjoy This shift can change a lot for people. All these behaviours that you don’t love are probably your nervous system trying to soothe itself, when that system no longer requires soothing, you will naturally do things differently.
