I think my biggest issue with this season is that in the shondaland version of bridgerton we have flipped society on its head such that people of colour hold positions of rank and nobility but a second son can’t marry an illegitimate maid? The attempt at reconciling the ahistorical take on a regency universe is at odds with the more traditional arc followed by the novel. The central conflict felt out of place in the world the show has created.

I wish I could love this season. the way you describe it...it sounds so beautiful in the book. again. im just tired of the show having so many side stories. I feel like just as im trying to really like Benedict and Sophia...something else derails their story...

what a delightful insight!! it's so good to see someone articulate thoughts on this season so beautifully especially considering it feels like people are upset no matter what the show does but i found this season to actually be done quite wonderfully

yes! yerin ha described their dynamic as “Benedict allows Sophie to dream and Sophie allows benedict be grounded” which sort of references their dynamic. and one of the taglines for S4 press has been “fantasy vs reality”

I love an offer from a gentleman so much I read it as a senior in high school and I fell in love with their relationship and Sophie as a character and I feel like they actually tried to do her character justice this time

Maybe it’s because I’m coming off the Heated Rivalry high, but I’m just not loving this season as much as I want to. I don’t buy the tension/chemistry between Sophie and Benedict
