@drkopelman: Ashwagandha and Hair Growth Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb that I sometimes discuss with patients who are experiencing stress related hair shedding. Chronic stress increases cortisol levels, and elevated cortisol can push more hairs into the shedding phase. By helping regulate the body’s stress response, ashwagandha may indirectly support healthier hair cycling. I want to be clear though. Ashwagandha is not a primary treatment for genetic pattern hair loss. It does not block DHT and it does not directly stimulate follicles the way medications like minoxidil do. I see it more as supportive therapy in patients with telogen effluvium or stress driven shedding. For the right patient, especially someone dealing with high stress, sleep issues, or elevated cortisol, it can be part of a holistic approach. As always, supplements should be discussed with a healthcare provider to ensure proper dosing and safety.
