They require a period of low-temperature dormancy in winter (continuous hundreds of hours at 0–10°C) for flower bud differentiation, blooming and fruiting.
The Philippines has high temperatures all year round with no cold winter, so it cannot meet the dormancy requirements of cherry trees.
