@shorerootsholistic: The “experts” say seed oils are safe. Decide for yourself 👀👉 Seed oils (soybean, corn, canola, cottonseed, sunflower, safflower) are industrially refined oils that undergo: • Mechanical pressing • Solvent extraction (commonly using hexane) • High-heat refining, bleaching, and deodorizing This processing can make their polyunsaturated fats (especially omega-6 linoleic acid) more prone to oxidation. Over time, chronic oxidative stress has been associated with cellular damage — including potential DNA damage — particularly in the context of a heavily processed diet. What about cancer? • Some mechanistic and animal studies suggest oxidized linoleic acid metabolites may promote tumor growth in certain contexts. So what do you cook with then? Here’s healthier alternatives with their safe smoking points: Olive Oil • Organic Cold Pressed Extra virgin: For temperatures up to ~375–410°F (190–210°C) Coconut Oil • Virgin/unrefined:For temperatures up to ~350°F (175°C) Pure Avocado Oil • Pure Unrefined: For temperatures up to ~375–400°F (190–205°C) Butter • Organic Grass Fed Butter:Temperatures up to ~300–350°F (150–175°C) Grass Fed Ghee • Grass-fed ghee:Temperatures up to ~450–485°F (230–250°C) How do I avoid seed oils when I eat out? Soooo many restaurants use seed oils but the best way I avoid them is by either googling the restaurant and if they use seed oils or I simply call them and ask! Follow @shorerootsholistic for more!
