But if she stayed home, the mother-in-law would never let up about how unfair it is to Jason that he has to shoulder the family 🫠

The bigger problem here is that your government doesn't provide for longer parental leave.

My mother did this, then insisted that she would look after my daughter. Then complained constantly that she was looking after my daughter. I went back to work for 1 day a week.

this is aweful that families have to make this choice. I can not imagine living in a place that does not have parental leave that covers more than just a few months.

Zero judgement to parents making these choices (whichever path they choose) but massive judgement to governments that force this choice rather than offering better parental leave so that mothers can have extra time IF they want it and still keep their career.

Oh gosh in Canada we can take 18 months and our jobs are protected. This would be so hard.

That’s why in Canada the mother can take up to 18 months of paid Maternity leave.

Not the MIL decision. If she doesn't like it so what. THE PARENTS MAKE THE DECISIONS

the lack of parental leave doesn't rest with the parents, but MIL is right. Families need time to bond, adjust, and care for their newborn. Really it should be minimum 1 year.

I had 6 months (1998) mat leave, but loved going back to work. And continuing my career made it easy to leave my marriage. Win-win! 😂

To all those saying they agree with MIL... I became a better mother after I went back to work. Not everyone is suited to being a full time stay at home parent and it's okay to take care of yourself so that you can take care of your family.
